C.4 Waste management
Litter and solid waste can contribute to the spread of vector diseases such as malaria, e.g. rainwater trapped in thrown away plastic bags provides ideal breeding grounds for malarial mosquitoes. Therefore it is important to manage the disposal of waste both at the household/farm level as well as at the market. One of the best methods of waste management is to recycle or reuse waste products, e.g. cans, glass bottles, paper, cardboard and plastics can be recycled and/or reused, and organic waste can be used in compost. These guidelines give guidance to improved management of waste.
